Sanju Samson Targets Another Match-Winning Performance in T20 World Cup Final
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is aiming to deliver another decisive performance as India prepares to face New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Ahmedabad.
Samson has played a crucial role in India’s journey to the final, producing two outstanding innings during the knockout stages. He first scored an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies cricket team in a must-win match before smashing 89 against the England cricket team in the semifinal.
Speaking after India’s narrow seven-run victory over England, Samson described the performances as extremely satisfying but emphasised that the team still has “one more step to go.”
In the semifinal, Samson’s aggressive innings included seven sixes and eight fours from just 42 deliveries. His knock powered India to a massive total of 253 for seven, the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match.
The 31-year-old credited years of experience in the Indian Premier League and international cricket for helping him develop clarity about his role in the team. Having played more than 300 T20 matches in various batting positions, he said he now understands exactly what the team requires in high-pressure situations.
Samson also praised India’s bowling unit, particularly Jasprit Bumrah, whom he described as a once-in-a-generation bowler.
He also voiced strong support for teammates Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy, who have struggled for form during the tournament, expressing confidence that they could shine in the final.
