Shaktikanta Das Appointed as RBI Governor
Following the resignation of Urijit Patel as the Reserve Bank of India governor, BJP appointed retired IAS and former secretary for department of Economic Affairs, Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday.
Das will take over as 25th Governor of Reserve Bank and it was approved by Appointments Committee as well. He will replace the position for 3 years. As is economic affairs secretary for Government of India during the implementation of crucial GST and demonetization.
He has closely monitored the cash supply across the nation and advocated Modi's cash ban decision. During the 50 days of cash ban, Das has become popular among people with frequent press meets and interviews.
Urjit’s unexpected resignation on 10th December has demanded the Government of India for a replacement. Now, we must see how other opposition parties will take Das appointment. There is no surprise, if parties come up with more controversies!
