Donald Thurman, the man who was accused of sexually harassing and murdering the 16-year-old Indian-American girl in Chicago told in his confession statement that she didn’t listen to his catcalls and that’s why he followed the girl and somehow was able to put her into his chokehold making her unconscious.
He is charged with the first-degree murder of Ruth George, who was studying Honours at the University of Illinois in Chicago and hails from Hyderabad.
Witness Cook County prosecutor James Murphy told the police that she refused to respond to his catcalls and ignored him most of the time. This had made him angry and he started following her till the parking garage. He took the girl in his chokehold until she was unconscious. Then in the back of the car, he sexually assaulted the girl and left the body in the back seat itself.
Murphy said surveillance cameras captured Thurman following George into the parking garage.
George’s family left Dejected told in a statement,” We hold no hatred towards the perpetrator, But our hope is no other girl would be harmed in this way and for a mother to never experience this type of heartache."
Police have assured that he will be punished for life in prison on the charge of sexual assault and murder.
