Shoot-At-Sight Order Issued In Parts Of Delhi, Death Toll Rises 23

After two days of persistent violence in northeast Delhi, a shoot-at-sight order has been issued in the affected areas, police sources said on Tuesday.

Death toll in northeast Delhi because of the violence over CAA has climbed to 20 with over 180 people being injured. Police head constable Rattan Lal was one among 20 others who were reported dead. Several journalists complained of “running for their lives” while reporting from the ground. Some of them also suffered injuries.

Several incidents of firing by protestors and security forces were also reported and their frequency has been increasing since then.

The Union Home Ministry has appointed senior IPS officer S.N. Srivastava the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) to contain the law and order crisis in the national capital.

The Central Board of Secondary Education also postponed the board exams for Class 10 and 12, scheduled on Wednesday in violence-affected areas. Both private and government schools will also remain closed.
