On March 19, PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation and asked the citizens of India to observe self-curfew on March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm. Calling it Janata Curfew, Modi Ji also requested people to stand on their balconies asking them to clap (at 5 pm) as a mark of respect to medical professionals and emergency responders who are working tirelessly.
Ever since PM's speech to the nation, many celebrities from the South film industries took to their social media handles and appealed to their fans and followers, asking them to observe self-curfew this Sunday.
Tollywood star Mahesh Babu took to Twitter and wrote, "Urging all citizens to support the clarion call of our honorable PM @narendramodi and take part in the #JanataCurfew this Sunday to fight the #Coronavirus. Let's also salute our brave hearts who risk themselves to protect us and let them know how much we appreciate them by standing out on our balconies at 5 PM this Sunday and give them a resounding ovation! Stay safe. Stay healthy!! #IndiaFightsCorona (sic)."
Telugu stars Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan also did their bit by raising awareness amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They also recorded videos and urged their fans to follow self-curfew to curb the spread of Covid-19.
