Street In New York Co-Named Ganesh Temple Street
In a landmark moment for the Hindu community in the US, a street outside one of the nation's most famous temples has been named 'Ganesh Temple Street'.
The Hindu Temple Society of North America Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam, also called the Ganesh Temple, was founded in 1977 and is considered to be the oldest Hindu temple in North America.
The street outside the temple is named Bowne Street, after the leading American pioneer of religious freedom and the anti-slavery movement John Bowne.
In a special ceremony, the street was co-named the ‘Ganesh Temple Street' in honor of the iconic Ganesh temple.
As part of the special ceremony, the street sign was unveiled by the Consul General of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, the Deputy Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Innovation in the Office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Dilip Chauhan, and members of the Indian-American community.
Earlier last week, the Consulate General of India in NY, Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), and Jaipur Foot USA organized a virtual celebration of Rajasthan Diwas on March 30.
