Suspended Government Teacher Appeals Against Online Trolling
A government teacher in Khammam district, who was suspended for allegedly promoting a private school on social media, has appealed for public support after facing severe online trolling. Bhukya Gauthami, a school assistant teaching English at Mamillagudem High School, was accused of promoting admissions for a private school through Instagram reels during school hours.
The district educational officer (DEO), Chaitanya Jaini, placed her under suspension, stating that she continued the activity despite repeated warnings. The order cited negligence of duty and misuse of official time as reasons for disciplinary action.
In an emotional Facebook video, Gauthami broke down in tears, stating that she acted out of ignorance and lack of guidance. She denied any deliberate intent to violate service rules and promised never to repeat such actions. She also said that teaching was her sole source of livelihood and highlighted her efforts in distributing books and conducting special English classes for students.
Meanwhile, tribal and Dalit organisations announced plans to meet the DEO, alleging selective action. They claimed that one of the directors of the private school promoted by Gauthami is also a government teacher but has not faced action due to political influence. The issue has sparked debate over fairness in disciplinary proceedings.
