Team India Returns Home After T20 World Cup Victory
Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, has returned home after their victorious campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. The team, which triumphed over South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados, arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning.
After being delayed for three days due to Hurricane Beryl, the Indian squad departed from Barbados aboard a special Air India charter flight named "Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC)." The flight left Grantley Adams International Airport at 4:50 a.m. local time and landed in Delhi at around 6:20 a.m. IST.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arranged the flight, which included the Indian team, support staff, players' families, board officials, and members of the media. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that Indian journalists, along with BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah, were also on board.
Upon arrival, the team received a heroes' welcome. They then traveled to ITC Maurya, where Rishabh Pant carried the trophy inside. The team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 10 a.m. at his office. After the breakfast session, they will leave for Mumbai.
In Mumbai, a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus will take place in the evening, followed by a felicitation event at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate their victory.
