Telangana CM Seeks 5-Year GST Compensation, Advocates Talks with Maoists

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to extend compensation to states for five more years following the overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He argued that reduced tax rates would severely impact state revenues, estimating Telangana alone could lose ₹7,000 crore annually.
The Congress leader insisted that the Centre must safeguard states’ financial stability. Speaking at a press conference, Reddy also advocated dialogue with Maoists willing to surrender, criticizing the government’s approach of violence. “If talks can be held with terrorists and Pakistan, why not with our own people?” he asked.
On K Kavitha’s resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he called it a “family matter,” adding that Telangana society had distanced itself from KCR’s family. Reddy also addressed the pending Telangana Assembly bills related to reservations, awaiting assent from President Droupadi Murmu. He said the state would wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict on whether constitutional authorities can be bound by timelines in such matters. His comments highlight both the fiscal challenges and political undercurrents shaping Telangana’s governance amid major national policy changes.
