Telangana Reels Under Heaviest Rains in 50 Years

Telangana is facing its worst rains in five decades, with torrential downpours causing widespread flooding, multiple deaths, and severe damage to infrastructure. Officials reported that over 1,400 people have been rescued so far, while at least six remain missing across several districts.
In Kamareddy, two men were swept away in Neelakatta Vagu, while another died in a wall collapse. In Rajanna-Sircilla district, two villagers, Bestha Satyam and Yada Goud, were washed away while crossing a bridge. Rescue teams managed to recover one body, while the other remained missing. Army helicopters had to be deployed to rescue five people stranded on an island in Narmala village.
Heavy inflows into rivers and tanks breached bridges, culverts, and roads across Medak, Kamareddy, and Nizamabad. The Upper Manair Vagu washed away part of a bridge at Bandalingampally, forcing closure of traffic. At least 85 key road locations and 16 tanks suffered damage, while NH-44 caved in at multiple spots, causing major traffic diversions. Train services were also disrupted after tracks caved in at Bhiknoor and Shamnapur.
Officials said at least 14 locations recorded rainfall exceeding 100 mm on Thursday, with Ramareddy mandal logging the highest at 171.3 mm. Crops over vast areas were submerged, and assessment of agricultural losses is ongoing.
Over 15 SDRF teams, five NDRF units, and 100 Army personnel have been deployed in flood-hit districts to aid rescue operations. Relief camps are providing food, water, and essential supplies to displaced families. However, large colonies remain submerged, with residents awaiting evacuation.
Authorities have warned of continued high inflows and urged caution as tanks and rivers remain swollen.
