Tiktok Sues Trump Government Over Its Ban In US
TikTok, the video-sharing application owned by China-based ByteDancehas filed a lawsuit against the US government to challenge a proposed ban against the service.
TikTok has argued that the ban prevents the company from due process, as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. This is in accordance with an order signed by Trump requiring Beijing-based ByteDance to sell off its US TikTok assets within 90 days or see the app banned.
“We do not take suing the government lightly, however, we feel we have no choice but to take action to protect our rights, and the rights of our community and employees,” TikTok said.
TikTok also outlines the concern that the executive order bans activities that are not “an unusual and extraordinary threat,”.TikTok also continues to claim it protects U.S. user data by storing that data outside of China on servers in the U.S. and Singapore.
Also, the company committed that spent nearly a year working in good faith to give the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States requested details and information about TikTok’s business.
