Trump Highlights Mediation Role, Praises Modi After Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt

US President Donald Trump, returning from the Middle East Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, asserted his global influence as a mediator in international conflicts. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump declared that world leaders frequently seek his intervention in diplomatic crises. “I get along with the tough ones, I don’t get along with the weak ones,” he said confidently, emphasizing his strong personal ties with several world leaders.
Trump specifically mentioned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noting, “Erdogan’s been great with me. When NATO has a problem with Erdogan, they call me to talk to him, and I never failed at working immediately.” He reinforced his image as a dealmaker capable of navigating complex geopolitical tensions.
Discussing the Israel-Hamas conflict, Trump highlighted the success of the US-led Gaza ceasefire plan. “We are talking about rebuilding Gaza… we did it the right way, and our timing was perfect,” he said. He claimed that rather than focusing on debates over one-state or two-state solutions, the mediators focused on practical steps to secure lasting peace.
At the summit, Trump praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him “a very good friend.” He commended Modi’s leadership, saying, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top, and he has just done a fantastic job.” His remarks came just days after a phone call with Modi, during which the Indian Prime Minister congratulated him on the “historic Gaza peace plan.”
The Gaza ceasefire document was formally signed by four key mediators: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, US President Donald Trump, Turkish President Erdogan, and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Notably, neither Israel nor Hamas was present at the signing, though the agreement was aimed at ending their conflict.
The summit, co-chaired by Egypt and the United States, brought together leaders from over 20 countries and major international organizations. President Sisi opened the summit by declaring it a “pivotal historical moment,” marking the formal conclusion of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement to end the war in Gaza.
Through this summit, Trump showcased his diplomatic ambitions and reaffirmed US leadership in Middle East peace efforts, while strengthening ties with key partners like India.
