Trump Warns of ‘Total Disaster’ If Mamdani Wins NYC Mayoral Race, Endorses Cuomo
US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to New York voters, claiming the city will face a “complete and total disaster” if Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the upcoming mayoral race. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump labelled Mamdani a “Communist” and vowed to limit federal funding to New York City if he is elected.
Trump instead endorsed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, urging voters to “choose competence over chaos.” He wrote, “Whether you like Cuomo or not, you really have no choice — Mamdani would destroy the city.”
Mamdani, 34, an Indian-origin New York State Assemblyman and son of filmmaker Mira Nair, has surged ahead as a frontrunner, promising rent freezes and affordable housing for New Yorkers. However, Trump accused him of having “zero experience” and called him “a nothing” in his current role.
Cuomo, running as an independent, faces Mamdani and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa in the election scheduled for November 4, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Early voting has already seen over 735,000 ballots cast — four times higher than in 2021.
As Mamdani continues to lead the polls, Trump’s harsh remarks have amplified tensions in a heated race that could reshape New York’s political landscape.
