Twitter's privacy bug - Revealing tweets of protected accounts for last 4 years
Twitter just confirmed a bug on its Android app which was prevalent for around 4 years. This bug exposed the protected tweets of some users without their knowledge.
The protected tweet is a setting in twitter which allows only the approved followers to see the tweets posted by the user hiding it from the public. So if you had used Twitter in past 4 years on your android mobile it would be wise to go back and check on the setting.
Twitter has not specified the reason behind this issue, but it is speculated that changing some other settings could affect the one tied to protected tweets. Like as an example if you have changed the email address on your account using the Android application.
IOS or web users were not affected however this bug was present on its Android app from 3rd November 2014 till this week until an update was pushed to fix the bug.
All those affected were already been informed however Twitter has still recommended all to cross check on its privacy settings.
