UK Prime Minister Tests Positive For Coronavirus
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on Friday, took to Twitter and announced that he has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is in self-isolation.
Johnson experienced mild symptoms and, following it, tested positive in a test on Thursday. However, he will continue to take charge of the government’s handling of the crisis.
“Over the last 24 hours, I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus. I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus,” he said in a tweet.
He was tested at No 10 by NHS staff, on the personal advice of England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty, Downing Street said. It comes after the Prince of Wales also tested positive for the virus earlier this week.
There are more than 11,600 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, and 578 people have died. The UK toll is the seventh-worst in the world, after Italy, Spain, China, Iran, France, and the United States.
