Virat Kohli Breaks Another Record

Indian cricket skipper and prolific run-scorer Virat Kohli, who is widely considered the best batsman of his generation, has become the first person from India to reach the 50 million followers mark on social media platform Instagram.

The 31-year-old is India's most valuable celebrity. The cricketing icon has so far 930 posts on the picture-sharing website and is following 480 people. According to a study by a global advisory firm, Duff and Phelps, Kohli topped the brand valuation list for the third consecutive year as his value rose by an impressive 39 percent to $237.5 million in 2019.

In terms of Indians with the most number of followers, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas is the 2nd most followed Indian on Instagram and is followed by 49.9 million users. Deepika Padukone comes 3rd in the list with 44.1 followers. Over 34.5 million users follow PM Narendra Modi on Instagram.

Overall, Instagram's official account has the most number of followers and star footballer Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 200M followers and is followed by musician Ariana Grande with 175 million users.

Last year, Kohli had become the most successful Indian Test captain, surpassing MS Dhoni. Presently, Kohli is leading Team India in New Zealand and would take on the hosts in the two-match Test series, slated to commence from February 21.
