"We Shall Win This Together": Modi To Trump
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has replied to US President Donald Trump after Trump thanked India for clearing the export of hydroxychloroquine. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug believed to be effective in the treatment of COVID-19.
Thanking India and PM Modi, the American President said India's help during this difficult time will not be forgotten. "Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you, India and the Indian people for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten! Thank you Prime Minister @NarendraModi for your strong leadership in helping not just India, but humanity, in this fight!" Mr. Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
In reply to Trump tweet, the PM of India tweeted, “Fully agree with you President @realDonaldTrump. Times like these bring friends closer. The India-US partnership is stronger than ever.
India shall do everything possible to help humanity's fight against COVID-19.
We shall win this together. “
Over 30 countries had requested India to lift the ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine.
"I want to thank Prime Minister Modi of India for allowing us to have what we requested when the problem arose and he has been terrific. We will remember it," Mr. Trump told reporters at his daily White House news conference on coronavirus.
India, the largest producer of hydroxychloroquine, agreed to lift the ban on the export of the medicine to the US after Mr. Trump spoke to PM Modi on phone last week. Gujarat-based companies would export these tablets to the US, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.
The US recorded nearly 2,000 novel coronavirus deaths for the second day in a row, by Johns Hopkins University. The record-breaking figure of 1,973 deaths brings the total number of US fatalities to 14,695.
India has recorded over 5,700 cases, including 166 deaths.
