While Doctors Operated on His Brain, This Man Recited Hanuman Chalisa

It is usual for the family members to pray for the patient who is undergoing a critical surgery. But, at a private hospital in Jaipur, it was the patient himself who kept on reciting Hanuman Chalisa for three hours while doctors performed a surgery to remove a tumour from his brain.

When doctors told a 30-year-old accountant from Dungargarh of Bikaner district, they would perform brain surgery keeping him awake in the operation theatre, he hesitated. But agreed when the doctors explained to him it was the only way to make sure his speech remain unaffected.

The surgery was conducted on November 14 and lasted for three and a half hours. After making sure the tumour was removed completely and there were no side-effects, doctors disclosed the details of the procedure. The surgery was the first of its kind conducted in the city.

This procedure is called ‘Open Craniotomy’ and during the procedure, the patient was asked to read, sing or recite verses to ensure that there is no permanent damage was done by removing vital tissues.

The procedure has now become common around the world but not all patients are suitable for it. One must lie extremely still during the procedure failing which results in fatal outcomes. Last year, a 32-year-old musician strummed his guitar as doctors performed a similar surgery in Bengaluru that lasted seven hours.
