Wipro, Azim Premji Foundation's Big Contribution

Wipro Ltd, Wipro Enterprises Ltd, and Azim Premji Foundation have together contributed Rs 1,125 crores to fight the crisis in the country, arising because of the pandemic COVID-19.
Of the Rs 1,125 crores, Wipro Ltd’s contribution is Rs 100 crore, Wipro Enterprises Ltd’s is Rs 25 crore and that of the Azim Premji Foundation is Rs 1,000 crore.
The contribution was in addition to the annual CSR activities of Wipro, and the usual philanthropic spending of the Azim Premji Foundation.
“These resources will help the dedicated medical and service fraternity on the frontline of the battle against the pandemic,” Wipro said in a statement.
A few days ago, news broke out that Azim Premji had donated Rs 50,000 Crores to fight coronavirus. However, WIPRO later clarified that news reports and social media posts of Founder Azim Premji donating Rs 50,000 crore are misleading as the charitable contribution was made in March 2019.
Several other corporates have also pledged crores of rupees to help tackle the health crisis. Tata Trusts and Tata Group have together committed to spending Rs 1,500 crores, while Reliance Industries’ chief Mukesh Ambani has pledged Rs 500 crores.
COVID-19 has killed 38 people in India and has affected 1,637 people so far. Globally, it has infected 8,74,081 people and killed 43,291.
