Woman Charges for Deleted 2017 Facebook Post!
The Assam Police filed a case against a Gauhati University research scholar Rehana Sultana in connection with deleted Facebook post in 2017 about the consumption of beef. Sultana's original post which is written in Assamese in June 2017 reads, “Today, we are also participating in Pakistan’s joy by gorging on beef! What I eat depends on my taste buds! However, don’t make yourselves the subject of controversy simply by talking about the taboo subject of beef.” The word “Pakistan’s joy’ is used as the reference to the loss of India to Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
The controversy had arisen after the screenshot of this old deleted post was published on the northeast based web portal called 'InsideNE'. The article’s headline reads, "Gauhati University Girl Relates Eating Beef with the ‘Joy of Pakistan'". The website claims that the Facebook post was made on Bakri Eid and the article was written on August 14th this year. The website questioned: “Who is this girl? What is her relationship with India’s arch-rival Pakistan? Why is she posting about her personal food preference in social media? When she tries to identify her with her food preference how can she warn others.”
The website also leads to this kind of posts leads to communal hatred and wars between two communities. “Guwahati Commissioner Deepak Kumar said to the media, that they have seen the case and started an inquiry at the Jalukbari Police Station. He also said that they are trying to locate the girl and the case,” the website mentioned. The website has said so much but no where it had mentioned the Facebook post was made and deleted in 2017, that means 2 years ago. This made many people doubt the website is anti-Muslim!
