IT Minister Lokesh Pledges Government Support to Empower Weavers’ Community in Guntur
In a gesture of solidarity, IT Minister N. Lokesh assured the weavers' community of comprehensive support from the Andhra Pradesh government to address their challenges. Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for the Padmasali Bhavan, an initiative by the Padmasali International Welfare Association (PIWA) in Kolanukonda, Guntur district, Mr. Lokesh praised PIWA’s ongoing service efforts, which began in Vijayawada 17 years ago.
Acknowledging the hurdles traditional weavers face, Mr. Lokesh highlighted a significant step by the NDA government: establishing ‘Weavershala’ in partnership with the Tata Group’s Taneira brand. This facility aims to equip weavers with advanced skills to help them compete in a landscape increasingly dominated by powerlooms. PIWA president S. Pulla Rao and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
