Mumbai Police on Alert After Threat of Human Bombs in 34 Cars

Mumbai Police went on high alert Friday after receiving a chilling threat claiming that human bombs were planted across the city and would be detonated on Anant Chaturdashi, September 6. The message was sent to the official WhatsApp number of the traffic police by a sender identifying as “Lashkar-e-Jihadi.”
The threatening message alleged that 34 vehicles had been loaded with explosives and that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India. It further warned that 400 kg of RDX would be used, potentially killing “1 crore people” and leaving Mumbai “shaken.”
Although senior police officials believe the threat could be a hoax, they are not taking chances. Security has been tightened across Mumbai with heightened checks, surveillance, and deployment of additional forces. Anti-terrorism units and intelligence agencies have also joined the investigation to trace the origin of the message and assess its credibility.
The police are scanning suspicious vehicles and monitoring crowded areas, especially Ganesh visarjan routes, as thousands of devotees are expected during Anant Chaturdashi. Given Mumbai’s history with terror attacks, authorities are approaching the matter with utmost seriousness.
Investigations are underway to identify the sender, who could face severe charges under anti-terrorism laws even if the threat proves false. Officials emphasized that spreading panic through such messages is a serious crime that wastes security resources and disrupts public order.
The timing of the threat has raised concerns as it coincides with the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, when Mumbai witnesses one of its largest public gatherings. While citizens are urged to remain calm, they are also advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
