Trump declares national emergency over US - Mexico border wall
President Trump has declared national emergency on Friday. This was done to fulfill his electoral promises to build the US-Mexico border wall without congressial approval as congress was creating obstacles by not providing the required funds for the same.
Trump made the announcement from the Rose Garden, as he claimed illegal immigration was "an invasion of our country." The money granted in the bill for border barriers was about $1.4 billion which is far below the $5.7 billion that trump had insisted and as per the sources, the remaining money would come from funds targeted for counterdrug efforts and military construction, but aides could not immediately specify which military projects would be affected.
This announcement has been condemned by the Democrats who threaten of filling lawsuits and just hours after that the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives' Judiciary Committee said that it had launched an investigation into the emergency declaration.
Trump because of his decision has already acknowledged that he would be facing lengthy court fights and has said that “I expect to be sued. I shouldn't be sued..... We'll win in the Supreme Court"
