Actor Girish Karnad Passes Away

Popular actor, filmmaker, and playwright Girish Karnad passed away on Monday. He was 81.
He died of prolonged illness at his residence in Vittal Mallya Road, Bengaluru. Staff from the Cubbon Park Police station confirmed the sad news.
Karnad predominantly worked in South Indian cinema and Bollywood. He was a recipient of the 1998 Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
Karnad had made his acting and screenwriting debut with a Kannada movie Samskara in 1970. The film, based on a novel by UR Ananthamurthy and directed by Pattabhirama Reddy, won the first President's Golden Lotus Award for Kannada cinema.
Karnad was well-known to Telugu people through the film ‘Shankar Dada MBBS’.
