Disability and Success Stories from Entertainment Industry
Here are four Indians, who have proved that disability of any form is not a liability. They excel in their fields just like any normal person and are a source of inspiration for us in so many ways –
Sudha Chandran –
The famous classical dancer, Sudha Chandran, met with an accident at the age of 16. Her wound in her ankle was missed by doctors and it led to an infection. The only alternative was to amputate her leg. She got a prosthetic leg and overcame her disability. She is one of the most acclaimed classical dancers in the country and has performed Bharatnatyam at the international level. She has also worked in television serials and films.
Ravindra Jain –
Ravindra Jain was born visually impaired. He started singing at a very young age. He joined the film industry and became a successful music director in 1970s. He had composed numerous super-hit songs for Hindi movies. He had launched private albums which were liked by many. He was so dedicated to his work that, when his father passed away, he didn’t leave until the recording was over.
H Ramakrishnan –
At the age of two and a half, Ramakrishna contracted polio in both his legs. Since then he struggled a lot in his life. He was denied admission in regular school. He didn’t get jobs due to his disability. He became a musician and performed on various platforms. He is also CEO of SS Music television channel. He also runs a charitable trust called Krupa.
Akbar Khan –
Akbar Khan was born to a poor family of Rajasthan. He was visually impaired since birth, but his elder brother, who was also visually impaired since birth supported him a lot. He learned music due to his interest and was invited to various platforms as a performer and judge. In 1989, he was awarded National Award for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities. For him, blindness is a blessing than a curse.
