Fans Rally Behind Janhvi Kapoor After Pavithra Menon’s Criticism Over Param Sundari Casting

The upcoming film Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, has already generated massive buzz after its trailer release. While fans are excited, the film has sparked controversy following actress Pavithra Menon’s remarks questioning Janhvi’s casting. Taking to Instagram, Pavithra argued that the role should have gone to a native Malayali actress, asking, “Hum kum talented hain kya?” She highlighted stereotypes, adding that Kerala is often misrepresented in cinema with exaggerated depictions of Mohiniyattam and jasmine flowers.
Her comments, however, triggered a wave of backlash. Fans quickly defended Kapoor, noting that her character is a Mohiniyattam teacher, making the portrayal contextually accurate. Others questioned Menon’s logic, pointing out that many actors successfully play roles outside their regional identity, citing examples of Mrunal Thakur, Aishwarya Rai, and Rashmika Mandanna.
Some also argued that films are not bound to cast actors from a specific region, and art often transcends such restrictions. While critics say Bollywood must handle cultural representation more sensitively, Janhvi’s supporters insist that acting is about skill, not birthplace.
Directed by Tushar Jalota, Param Sundari is described as a colorful romance of cultural opposites—a North Indian man and a South Indian woman—set against the backdrop of Kerala. The film blends humor, love, and tradition, with music already trending across social media. Despite the controversy, excitement remains high as Param Sundari gears up for release on August 29, with fans calling it one of the most awaited romantic dramas of the year.
