Gully Boy is India’s entry to Oscars

Gully Boy is a Hindi movie which was directed by Zoya Akhtar and written by Akhtar and Reema Kagti, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar under the banners of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment productions. The movie stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in leading roles.

The movie is India's official entry in Oscars 2020. The movie is about a 22 -year-old Murad is the son of a driver, hailing from a ghetto in Mumbai. While his parents want him to do a good job, but his passion is rap music. In a country where being an artist is often a dream for him, his struggles to rise above his circumstances and become a musician will send ripples of hip-hop across all society, inspiring an entire generation of youngsters.

Farhan Akhtar, who is one of the producers of the film shared the news on Twitter. The actor Ranveer Singh said " the moment is a “proud” one for everyone associated with the film. “It’s a proud moment for our entire team. I’m especially proud of and happy for Zoya! -- Gully Boy is her (Tiger) baby, and I am blessed to have been a part of her maverick vision,” He thanked the Film Federation of India and his fans in a statement he posted on Twitter.

Alia also expressed her feelings she said: "Now, that Gully Boy has been selected as India’s official entry for the Academy, I just hope, pray and wish that we make it to the nomination and then win, Gully Boy as a film is really special to me". What’s even more special is that it has had such a long run - after releasing in February, it won at the Melbourne Film Festival, and then it was also screened in Japan. She added “This is a first and it’s a big deal for us. As a team, we are very excited,” expressed the actor.
