Iran Warns of Retaliation Over Trump’s Threats at UN
Iran has issued a strong warning at the United Nations, stating it will respond immediately if US President Donald Trump follows through on threats of large-scale attacks. The statement was delivered by Iran’s UN envoy, Amir-Saeid Iravani, during a Security Council session.
Iravani criticised Trump’s rhetoric, particularly remarks suggesting that an entire civilisation could be destroyed if Iran failed to comply with US demands. He described such statements as dangerous and potentially amounting to incitement of war crimes or even genocide.
Emphasising Iran’s stance, the envoy declared that the country would not remain passive in the face of aggression. He asserted Iran’s right to self-defence under international law and warned that any attack would be met with a proportional response.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, with ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and US forces. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, has become a focal point of the crisis, further increasing international concern.
Iravani also called on the global community to take Trump’s statements seriously and intervene diplomatically to prevent escalation. He stressed the importance of upholding international law and avoiding actions that could lead to widespread destruction.
The situation remains tense, with diplomatic efforts underway to secure a ceasefire. However, Iran’s warning underscores the high stakes involved and the potential consequences if negotiations fail.
