Kannappa Review: Vishnu Manchu’s Passion Project Delivers Emotion and Spectacle

Kannappa, a long-cherished dream of Vishnu Manchu, hits the big screen with grandeur and ambition. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu, the film is a mythological fantasy rooted in devotion and transformation. The story revolves around Tinnadu (played by Vishnu Manchu), a staunch non-believer who undergoes a profound spiritual transformation into Kannappa, a legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. This emotional journey is the backbone of the film, culminating in a powerful and stirring climax.

Vishnu Manchu delivers his career-best performance, particularly in the action-packed sequences and the emotionally charged finale. Prabhas, portraying the divine Rudra, arrives late into the narrative but electrifies the screen, drawing cheers from the audience. Mohan Babu appears briefly but shines in his scenes, especially during the climax. Sarath Kumar, Priety Mukundan, Brahmaji, and Brahmanandam support the story ably, with Priety holding a key emotional arc.

While the film boasts strong performances and a compelling storyline, its first half is bogged down by a slow pace and a few unnecessary romantic subplots. The visuals are decent, though the CGI leaves room for improvement. Stephen Devassy’s background score adds depth, particularly in intense and devotional moments. A 20-minute trim could have enhanced the narrative flow.

Despite its flaws, Kannappa stands tall due to its emotional depth and spiritual message. It transitions effectively from an action-packed first half to a soul-stirring devotional journey in the second.
