Lakshmi Manchu Calls Out Misogyny in Film Industry

Actor Lakshmi Manchu has filed a formal complaint with the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) after facing what she termed “casual misogyny” during a promotional event. She accused a senior journalist of making derogatory remarks about her age and body, calling it humiliating and disrespectful.
In her statement, Lakshmi emphasized that while Indian culture worships women as “Shakti,” professional spaces often remain hostile to them. She said that as a public figure, she is open to scrutiny and criticism but will not tolerate cruelty disguised as journalism. Demanding a public apology, Lakshmi stated, “Respect is not optional. Accountability is not negotiable.” She also pointed to systemic challenges for women in the film industry, citing the example of a superstar’s ex-wife who lost film opportunities post-divorce because of prejudices.
Lakshmi’s strong stand comes as she promotes her upcoming film Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, which released on September 20. Her complaint has sparked wider debate on sexism and ageism in the Indian entertainment industry, with many praising her courage in speaking out against entrenched biases.
