Mani Ratnam Finalizes Vijay-Vikram for Ponniyin Selvan, Historical Movie on Raja Chola-I
Renowned director Mani Ratnam tasted success this year with Chekka Chivantha Vaanam after delivering two flops in a row.
The multi-starer gangster film dealt with the story of three brothers who dug their own graves in the thirst to take over their father's throne.
The rumors were churning that the filmmaker is planning to revive his dream project, the onscreen adaptation of Tamil novel Ponniyin Selvan.
The idea has been in Ratnam's mind for several years now, but nothing materialized all these years. When the filmmaker decided over his project, everyone thought whether he will recast his duo Vijay-Vikram for the movie and finally, the filmmaker has taken the decision.
He has convinced Vikram to be part of this mega-budget flick. If everything goes well, the untitled film might go on floors sometime in 2020.
Sources close to the unit reveal that several look tests have been conducted as well.
Several attempts of creating the film adaptations of Ponniyin Selvan have been made and projects were shelved or suspended indefinitely including the1958 attempt when MGR announced the project.
After completing casting for many roles, the project was dropped for unstated reasons. In 2012, Maniratnam attempted to film the novel but later shelved the project due to budget issues.
Now that the beautiful novel has found its way back to the incredible producer, people hope that a beautiful movie, as grand as the novel, comes out of the process.
The movie hasn’t been yet officially announced so fingers crossed.
