Neena Gupta Responds to Pregnancy Rumours at 66 With Humour
Veteran Bollywood actor Neena Gupta has responded to social media rumours suggesting that she was pregnant at the age of 66, dismissing the speculation with humour and clarity.
The rumours began circulating online after Gupta attended the wedding reception of actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in Hyderabad. Photos and videos from the event quickly spread across social media platforms, with some users speculating about her appearance and mistakenly suggesting that she might be expecting a child.
Addressing the rumours in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Gupta laughed off the claims and joked about the unexpected attention. “This is all I need, a real-life Badhaai Ho,” she said, referring to her popular 2018 film Badhaai Ho, in which she played a middle-aged woman who becomes pregnant unexpectedly.
The actor then clarified that there was no truth to the speculation. According to her, the rumours were simply the result of how the outfit she wore at the event appeared in photographs.
“There is no Badhaai Ho. I am not pregnant. The truth is that the saree material was thick, which made me look bulky at the event,” she explained.
Despite dismissing the rumours, Gupta maintained a light-hearted tone and said she found the speculation amusing. She added that the fact that people could even imagine such a situation showed how attitudes were evolving.
Gupta has long been known for her openness about her personal life. In the 1980s, she was in a relationship with former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards and raised their daughter, fashion designer Masaba Gupta, as a single mother. The decision was widely discussed in Indian society at the time.
Years later, Gupta married Delhi-based chartered accountant Vivek Mehra in 2008.
