PM Modi Wishes Veteran Singer On His Birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite his busy schedule, will wish the people on their special days without missing. Today, popular Indian musician and playback singer K. J. Yesudas is celebrating his 80^th birthday. On the occasion, PM took to Twitter and wished him, acknowledging his great contribution to the Indian culture.

"On the special occasion of his 80th birthday, greetings to the versatile K. J. Yesudas Ji. His melodious music and soulful renditions have made him popular across all age groups. He has made valuable contributions to Indian culture. Wishing him a long and healthy life," Modi tweeted. The official handle of CMO Kerala has also tweeted saying, "Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has extended birthday greetings to the renowned singer Shri. K. J. Yesudas. CM wished him health and happiness."

Yesudas has given pleasant voice to many songs in films of different south Indian languages. Besides working for films, he has also recorded devotional and festive albums. In Telugu, his songs, such as 'Devude Ichadu' from Anthuleni Katha, 'Idele Tharatharala Charitham' from Peddarikam, 'O Kaalama' from Hitler, 'Boyavani Vetaku' from Rowdigari Pellam, had become blockbuster and are still fresh in the minds of all music lovers across South India. These are just to name a few from his vast discography. Apart from music, Yesudas has also acted in 10 Malayalam films and one Tamil film.

He has won the 'National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer' by the Government of India, for a record 8 times. Also, he has been awarded the 'Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer' 25 times by the Government of Kerala. He has numerous other awards and honors under his belt. He also landed in controversy one time, when he said, "Women should not wear jeans and trouble others. You should dress modestly and do not behave like men," while speaking at a public function on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
