Pushpa 2 Stampede Case: Allu Arjun Named in Chargesheet, Charged With Abetment
Nearly a year after a tragic stampede outside Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre during the pre-release event of Pushpa 2: The Rule, city police have filed a comprehensive chargesheet naming actor Allu Arjun among the accused. The incident, which occurred in December 2024 at the busy RTC X Roads area, claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman and left her minor son grievously injured.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar confirmed that the chargesheet was submitted before the IX Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Nampally two days ago. In total, 23 individuals have been named as accused, including Allu Arjun, who has been listed as Accused No. 11. The management of Sandhya Theatre has been identified as the prime accused in the case.
According to the police, Allu Arjun and other members of the Pushpa 2 cast arrived unexpectedly at the theatre on the night of the screening, triggering an uncontrolled surge of fans. Investigators allege that the sudden appearance of the star, combined with inadequate crowd management arrangements, directly contributed to the stampede. On this basis, the actor has been charged with abetment.
The stampede occurred between 10.30 pm and 11 pm while the actor was inside the theatre watching the film, which was scheduled for a pan-India release the following day. The deceased, identified as Revathi, collapsed during the chaos and was administered CPR by police before being rushed to a private hospital in Vidya Nagar, where she later died. Her young son, who lost consciousness after falling in the crowd, was revived by police and shifted to a hospital in Begumpet, where he reportedly recovered.
Police investigations concluded that poor crowd control, lack of proper barricading, and failure to anticipate the fan turnout were key factors behind the tragedy. The case has reignited discussions on celebrity event safety and accountability at large public gatherings.
