8-Year-Old Activist Refuses PM Modi’s Invitation

Licypriya Kangujam, an eight-year-old climate activist from Manipur, has turned down an invitation from the Prime Minister of India to be part of the #SheInspiresUs theme event organized for women’s day.

After she declined Modi’s invitation, she wrote on Twitter, “Please don’t celebrate me if you are not going to listen (to) my voice.” “Thank you for selecting me amongst the inspiring women.”

Talking to the media she said, “This made me ask myself hundreds of questions, whether I should accept such recognition and honor or should I keep pressing for my demands.” She had been keeping her demands and staging protests in front of the Parliament and many other places across the country, but none of her efforts seemed fruitful to her.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the winners of the “Nari Shakti” award, and his Twitter account will be run by successful women to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday.

“On this women’s day (March 8), I will share my social media accounts with women whose lives and work inspire us. This will help them ignite motivation by the millions,” he tweeted.
