AP CM Naidu Mobilizes TDP Cadre for Flood Relief Amid Severe Weather
In response to ongoing heavy rains and severe flooding across Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) cadre to actively participate in relief operations. The Chief Minister issued these instructions during a teleconference with party leaders and activists on Sunday, as the state grappled with the effects of relentless rainfall, which has led to widespread flooding, landslides, and significant property damage.
Naidu emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures to reduce the loss of lives during the floods. Reflecting on the TDP's history, he noted that even when the party was in opposition, it had provided support to the people using its resources. Now, in power, Naidu assured that the TDP is fully committed to minimizing any inconvenience faced by the public.
The Chief Minister specifically instructed party activists in the Krishna River basin to stand by the affected communities and ensure they receive all possible assistance. He urged them to inform the relevant authorities immediately if government intervention is required.
Naidu also mandated that all party MPs, ministers, and MLAs make ground visits to the affected areas, adding that a review would soon be conducted on their participation in the relief efforts. He reminded the cadre that effective action while in power creates a positive impression among the people, citing the TDP's response during the Hud Hud cyclone in Visakhapatnam as an example.
Asking the party activists to be on the ground for three days beginning Sunday, Naidu reminisced that it was 30 years ago to the day that he first took the oath as Chief Minister. Over those three decades, he noted, the state had experienced both positive and challenging situations.
Naidu also expressed his satisfaction that 93 percent of pensions were distributed despite the adverse weather conditions, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the party leaders and activists in ensuring this.
The severe weather has already claimed the lives of at least eight people in rain-related incidents, including flooding and landslides. Authorities have evacuated several residents from low-lying areas to safer locations, and approximately 80 people have been rescued in various operations conducted by national and state disaster relief forces along with the police.
