AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Announces Rs 4 Crore in Flood Relief Amidst Widespread Damage
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has announced a Rs 4 crore relief fund to assist communities devastated by the recent floods. During a review meeting at the Panchayat Raj Commissioner's office, Kalyan addressed the dire conditions across the state, revealing that all 400 village panchayats have been affected. He pledged Rs 1 lakh directly to each panchayat's account, aiming to provide immediate relief and support.
Kalyan emphasized that assistance to flood-hit populations must go beyond words, stressing the need for tangible aid. He also plans to contribute to the Telangana Chief Minister's Relief Fund, reinforcing his commitment to helping those in distress.
In his media address, the Deputy Chief Minister detailed the extensive damage caused by relentless rains, which have destroyed over 3,312 kilometers of roads, severely disrupting transportation and connectivity. The Roads and Buildings Department reported significant damage, complicating relief efforts further.
The floods have also wreaked havoc on agriculture, with nearly 1.69 lakh acres of farmland waterlogged, leading to substantial crop losses for local farmers. Horticultural crops, spread across 18,424 hectares, have also suffered considerable damage. Additionally, the rural infrastructure under the Panchayati Raj Engineering Department has been heavily impacted, with 233 kilometers of roads rendered unusable. The fishing community has not been spared, with around 60 boats belonging to local fishermen damaged due to the flooding.
Kalyan assured that the state government is actively monitoring the situation, focusing on providing essential resources like drinking water, food supplies, and sanitation to the affected communities.
