AP Government Offers Property Tax Exemption for Defence Personnel

In a significant pro-soldier move, the Andhra Pradesh government under Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has announced a major relief for serving Indian Defence Forces personnel. A new policy grants full exemption from property tax on one house owned or co-owned by a soldier or their spouse within Gram Panchayat limits.
Previously, only retired personnel or those posted in border regions were eligible for such exemptions. However, the updated directive, based on a recommendation from the Director of Sainik Welfare, extends this benefit to all serving personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Paramilitary Forces, and CRPF, regardless of their posting location.
Kalyan emphasized that this move is a mark of the state's deep respect and gratitude towards the armed forces. The exemption applies to one house where the personnel or their family resides, aiming to provide some financial relief and honour their sacrifices.
This decision is being seen as part of a broader initiative by the Andhra Pradesh NDA government to create a soldier-friendly administration and acknowledge the dedication and service of India's uniformed heroes.
