Amit Shah Slams Mamata Banerjee Over Operation Sindoor, Waqf Law

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of opposing Operation Sindoor and the Waqf Amendment Act to appease the Muslim vote bank. Speaking to BJP workers, Shah criticized Banerjee’s stance, stating that her opposition insults the “mothers and sisters” of India.

Operation Sindoor was the central government's military retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Shah alleged that Banerjee’s remarks about the operation being politically motivated were disrespectful and driven by vote bank politics. He predicted that in the 2026 state elections, women voters would respond strongly to her criticism.

Addressing the Murshidabad riots that claimed at least three lives, Shah claimed they were “state-sponsored” and accused senior TMC leaders of inciting violence. He said the Centre had urged the deployment of BSF forces, but the TMC government had refused, allowing the violence to escalate.

Shah also targeted Banerjee for opposing the Waqf Amendment Act, which aims to bring transparency to the management of Waqf properties. He linked her stance to appeasement politics and alleged that the TMC facilitates illegal infiltration from Bangladesh for political gain.

Claiming that the West Bengal government has not provided land to the BSF, Shah said this refusal obstructs the force's ability to secure borders. He asserted that only the BJP can effectively prevent infiltration, and accused the TMC of undermining national security for electoral advantage.
