Andhra Minister Nara Lokesh Facilitates IIT Admissions for Specially-Abled Students
On Monday, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh met with 25 specially-abled students whom he recently assisted in gaining admission to prestigious engineering colleges across India. This assistance came after Minister Lokesh issued a government order (GO) allowing these students to receive a marks memo with a fifth subject in their intermediate examination results.
The initiative began when Maruthi Prithvi Satyadev, a student admitted to IIT Madras, contacted Minister Lokesh via WhatsApp. Satyadev explained that the IIT required a marks memo for five subjects, while he had an exemption from the second language as per Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) norms. Responding promptly, Lokesh directed officials to issue a GO that averaged the marks of the four subjects to create a complete five-subject memo.
This action enabled Satyadev and other students to meet the necessary admission requirements for institutions like IITs, NITs, and IIITs. Satyadev expressed his gratitude, highlighting the swift response from the Minister, which resulted in the immediate issuance of the necessary certificate and securing his IIT Madras seat.
Another student, Teesta from Tirupati, who was admitted to IIT Guwahati, also praised Lokesh’s quick intervention, resolving her issues within days. Similarly, a student from Nellore, who secured a spot at IIT Kanpur, appreciated the Minister’s prompt actions in addressing the fifth subject exemption problem.
The 25 students met Lokesh at his residence in Undavalli, Amaravati, to thank him personally. The Minister emphasized the importance of a responsive government in solving problems efficiently and encouraged the students to contact him for any further assistance.
Lokesh later expressed his commitment to equal educational opportunities for all on social media, highlighting his belief in different abilities rather than disabilities.
