Andhra Pradesh to Host South Asia’s Most Powerful Quantum Computer by July 2026: Lokesh
Andhra Pradesh is set to emerge as a global leader in quantum technology, with plans to host South Asia’s most powerful quantum computer by July 2026, announced Minister Nara Lokesh at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Addressing the “Skills and Collaboration: Accelerating Quantum Innovation” session, Lokesh outlined the state’s ambitious roadmap for quantum leadership.
He highlighted the rapid growth of the global quantum computing market, which is expected to reach USD 20 billion by 2030, while stressing the acute shortage of skilled professionals. Lokesh noted that only one-third of global demand for quantum experts is currently being met.
As part of Andhra Pradesh’s vision, Amaravati will house the IBM Quantum System Two powered by a 133-qubit Heron processor, in partnership with IBM and TCS. This facility will anchor India’s first Quantum Valley Tech Park, spread across 50 acres, featuring global research labs, innovation centres, and advanced training programs.
The state plans to test 100 quantum algorithms by January 2026 and develop 100 real-world use cases by August 2026. Lokesh also announced a three-phase talent strategy aimed at building quantum literacy, industry-ready professionals, and advanced researchers, aligned with India’s National Quantum Mission.
Emphasising collaboration, Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh aims not just to adopt but to build, innovate, and export quantum technology, positioning itself as a long-term leader in the global quantum economy.
