British MP thanks CM KCR for building Ambedkar Statue
Sharma said that the Chief Minister and the whole population of Telangana were pleased with the placement of the Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad.
Indian-origin British MP Virendra Sharma was moved by the Telangana government's installation of a 125-foot bronze statue of BR Ambedkar in the city and has praised the effort done by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Ealing, sent a letter to the Chief Minister praising the placement of the Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad, saying it was something of which the Chief Minister and the people of Telangana should be very proud. Ambedkar's life and legacy were the foundation upon which India was built. He said his views on tolerance and equality in society, as well as his voluminous literature, were decades ahead of their time in both the United Kingdom and India.
He claimed that as the creator and father of the Constitution, Ambedkar crafted the text to ensure the nation's survival and that the ideals Ambedkar championed and shared built the contemporary Constitution of India, placing growth and pluralism above old beliefs.
Ambedkar foresaw a brighter future, but we have yet to actualize it completely. He dreamed of a superstitious-free India devoted to the betterment of its people," he said.
Sharma said he was pleased to collaborate with Telangana community groups in the United Kingdom, particularly with Uday Nagaraju, a native of Telangana who is running for office in the United Kingdom.
They do amazing things, not only for their people but for the whole diaspora of people from Telangana who live in the United Kingdom. He hoped the CM would soon visit the UK to discuss the statue's design with him.
