CM Revanth Reddy has requested an exploration of alternative alignments for the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
CM Revanth Reddy has urged senior officers to halt the current Airport Metro Rail route alignment plan and tender, instructing them to swiftly devise alternative alignments from MGBS-Falaknuma and LB Nagar via Chandrayangutta. During a comprehensive review of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, its expansion, and the Airport Metro project, the Chief Minister directed the HMRL Managing Director to explore cost-effective alternatives, such as routes via Mailardevpally, Jalpally, and P7 Road, or through Barkas-Pahadi Shareef and Srisailam Road, emphasizing the cost-saving benefits of a straight line alignment across government-owned Airport premises.
Furthermore, he advised officials to plan an eco-friendly mega township in the extensive lands acquired for Pharma City near Kandukur, ensuring that the polluting Pharma City is situated away from Hyderabad. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for Metro Rail connectivity from the Airport area to the new city via Tukkuguda on Srisailam Road.
Expressing dissatisfaction with benefits granted to Metro Rail Concessionaire L&TMRHL without completing the 5.5 km stretch in the Old City, he called for an investigation into the matter. The Chief Minister stressed the examination of concession agreements to protect government interests.
Highlighting the strategic importance of accommodating the city's growing population, he called for a Master Plan, including Musi river beautification and east-west road-cum-Metro Rail connectivity from Nagole to Gandipet. Revanth Reddy envisioned Hyderabad as a global city, urging officials to plan for satellite townships around ORR with Metro Rail facilitating affordable and rapid connectivity.
Balancing welfare schemes with city development, he envisioned Hyderabad as a logistics and medical hub, instructing the planning of a dry port given Telangana's landlocked status. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, HMRL MD NVS Reddy, and other senior CMO officers were present during the meeting.
