Chandrababu Naidu Set to Return as Andhra Pradesh CM on June 12 After Landslide Victory
Chandrababu Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is expected to be sworn in as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 12, according to TDP sources. Initially, the ceremony was planned for June 9 but has now been postponed.
Naidu's return marks a significant comeback, five years after losing to Jagan Mohan Reddy. This time, Naidu led TDP to a landslide victory in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, with the party ahead in 130 of the 175 seats. This triumph follows his recent arrest in an alleged corruption case. In the previous assembly, TDP held only 23 seats.
In the Lok Sabha elections, TDP also performed well, leading in 16 of the 25 seats. Their allies, BJP and Janasena Party (JNP), are leading in three and two segments, respectively.
Born on April 20, 1950, in Naravaripalli, Chandrababu Naidu began his political journey in student politics at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. He joined the Congress party and became a cabinet minister before switching to TDP, founded by his father-in-law, actor N T Rama Rao.
Naidu first became Chief Minister in 1995 and served two terms in the united Andhra Pradesh until 2004. He played a crucial role in developing Hyderabad into a major tech hub. In 2014, Naidu became the first Chief Minister of the residual state of Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation, focusing on developing Amaravati as the capital, a plan that was halted by his successor, Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Naidu's arrest in 2023 over the Skill Development Corporation Scam was a low point, but he was released on bail and prepared for the 2024 elections. Now, he joins the NDA alliance with BJP and JNP, ready to lead Andhra Pradesh once again.
