Communal Harmony in Telangana Has Deteriorated Under Congress Rule, Claims Harish Rao
Former Minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao has alleged that peace and communal harmony in Telangana have significantly deteriorated since the Congress came to power, claiming that the State has witnessed over 60 communal riots in the last two years. Rao made these remarks while addressing a series of municipal election campaign meetings across Indresham, Isnapur, Sadasivapet, Kohir, Zaheerabad, and Sangareddy.
Rao accused the Congress government of failing minorities and abandoning welfare initiatives launched during the previous BRS administration. He highlighted that the earlier government had established minority residential institutions in Zaheerabad, provided honorariums to Imams, and enabled nearly 50 students from minority residential colleges to qualify for the NEET examination, fulfilling their aspirations of becoming doctors.
According to Rao, these efforts were abruptly halted after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assumed office. He specifically criticised the discontinuation of the Ramzan gift distribution scheme for economically weaker Muslim families, calling it an example of the Congress government’s insensitivity towards minority welfare.
Rao further alleged that Congress leaders were intimidating voters by threatening to blacklist newly constructed houses and delay bill payments. He also accused the Chief Minister of warning municipalities against voting for opposition parties, claiming that funds would be withheld from local bodies not aligned with the ruling party.
Countering these claims, Rao asserted that central funds are a constitutional right of civic bodies and promised that BRS-led municipalities would secure their due share without obstruction. He also criticised the Congress government for neglecting urban development, citing poor sanitation and the failure to conduct basic fogging operations, leading to mosquito infestations in towns.
Calling on voters to support the BRS in the upcoming municipal elections, Rao said the polls would mark the first step towards bringing K. Chandrashekhar Rao back as Chief Minister.
