Congress Attacks Modi Government After Marco Rubio’s India-Pakistan Peace Claim
The Congress party has sharply criticized the central government after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that former President Donald Trump deserved credit for brokering peace in multiple global conflicts, including between India and Pakistan. Responding to Rubio’s remarks, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a swipe at the Modi administration, saying the much-publicized Modi–Trump “huglomacy” has now gone into a “deep freeze,” especially as Washington continues to contradict New Delhi’s stance on Operation Sindoor.
Speaking at a White House Cabinet meeting, Rubio praised Trump for implementing a foreign policy driven strictly by America’s security and prosperity interests. During the discussion, he referred to peace efforts involving “very dangerous conflicts like India and Pakistan, and Cambodia and Thailand,” and credited Trump for the diplomatic breakthroughs.
Trump echoed similar claims, asserting that he should receive Nobel recognition for ending eight wars during his administration. He has repeatedly stated that he resolved major international disputes, including India–Pakistan, Kosovo–Serbia, Israel–Iran, and Rwanda–Congo.
Congress, meanwhile, has accused the Indian government of failing to clarify or counter repeated US statements. Jairam Ramesh noted that Rubio was the first to announce the sudden halt of Operation Sindoor in May and that Trump has made similar assertions over 60 times globally. India continues to reject any third-party mediation on Indo-Pak issues.
