Congress Leader Files Complaint with SEC Against Party MLA
Senior Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy has lodged a formal complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) against Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar, alleging poll malpractices during ongoing municipal elections. The complaint marks an escalation in the ongoing rift between the two leaders.
In his written submission to State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini, Jeevan Reddy accused Dr Sanjay Kumar of distributing money and liquor in Jagtial and Raikal municipalities to influence voters. He further alleged that the MLA attempted to interfere with election officials and disrupt the electorate’s ability to exercise their franchise freely and peacefully.
The tension between the two leaders has persisted since Sanjay Kumar left the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to join the Congress, leading to a power struggle within the district’s party structure. Jeevan Reddy had previously made personal remarks against the legislator, reflecting the depth of their political differences.
In his complaint, Jeevan Reddy urged the Election Commission to take immediate steps to ensure free and fair elections. He specifically called for the appointment of a special task force committee to monitor and curb unethical practices during the polling process.
The development underscores growing political friction within the party at the district level. With municipal elections underway, the SEC’s response to the allegations is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.
