Congress Leader's Remarks Spark BJP Backlash Amidst Election Heat
Amidst controversy sparked by his comments regarding actor-politician Hema Malini, senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing their IT cell of distorting facts and spreading falsehoods.
The controversy arose when BJP leader Amit Malviya shared a video of Surjewala addressing a public gathering, wherein he remarked about Hema Malini. Malviya condemned the comment as "disgusting" and accused the Congress of being misogynistic.
In response, Surjewala shared another video from the same event, clarifying that his intention was not to insult Hema Malini but rather to emphasize accountability among elected representatives. He accused the BJP of intentionally twisting facts to divert attention from issues such as the Narendra Modi government's anti-youth, anti-farmer, and anti-poor policies.
Highlighting instances of alleged sexism within the BJP, Surjewala criticized the ruling party for their derogatory remarks towards women in the past. He reiterated his respect for Hema Malini and attributed the BJP's reaction to their inherent misogyny.
While Hema Malini has remained silent on the matter, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed Surjewala, accusing the Congress of disrespecting "Nari Shakti" (women empowerment) as their only identity.
Surjewala's remarks add to the string of controversial statements made by prominent leaders during the ongoing election season, with both Congress and BJP members facing criticism from the Election Commission for their comments and social media posts.
