ECI Announces Rajya Sabha Elections for Two Telangana Seats
The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections to fill two Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana, with polling scheduled for March 16, 2026. The seats will fall vacant following the completion of terms of Abhishek Manu Singhvi (Congress) and K R Suresh Reddy (BRS) on April 9.
The notification for the elections will be issued on February 26, with March 5 as the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny is set for March 6, and candidates may withdraw by March 9. Polling will take place between 9 am and 4 pm, with counting scheduled for 5 pm on the same day.
These elections are part of a larger exercise covering 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, and others. Political parties are expected to finalize their nominees soon, given the importance of representation in the Upper House.
In Telangana, the contest could carry political significance amid shifting alliances and party strategies. As preparations begin, attention will focus on candidate selection and legislative arithmetic in the State Assembly, which ultimately determines the outcome of Rajya Sabha elections.
