Elon Musk's c Is Approved For Human Brain Implant Testing.
Neuralink, a company founded by Elon Musk and based in San Francisco, said on Thursday that it had received clearance from US authorities to begin human testing of its brain implants.
Neuralink, whose technology aims to allow brains to communicate directly with computers, called receiving FDA authorization for its first-in-human clinical research "an important first step" for its technology.
In a tweet published by Musk, Neuralink announced that they had gotten FDA clearance to begin their "first-in-human" clinical trial.
The remarkable effort of the Neuralink team, working closely with the FDA, is responsible for this.
Neuralink claims that it is not currently accepting participants for a clinical study.
Musk said at a December presentation by the start-up that the goal of the Neuralink implants is to allow human brains to interface directly with computers. Musk said the business would look at using the implants to help people regain movement and sight.
Musk has said that curing neurological disorders is not his ultimate objective in developing AI; he wants to protect humanity from being "intellectually overwhelmed" by machines.
In July, Synchron reported that it had implanted the first brain-machine interface in the United States, and it isn't the only company working on a device like this.
